Couple this with the consumption of junk on social media and a decades-long decline in the quality of public education - and the defunding of humanities and liberal arts - in many countries, and you've got a bad, no-good civilizational concoction.

Agreed. But the same technology and society can also create the present day Rob Henderson. So, we're not totally crushed just yet. It's amazing what some curiosity and a willingness to read and learn can set into motion.

I'd also add audio books and podcasts to this too. While it is a golden age of consumable time-wasting content, it's also a golden age for consumable knowledge.
